This is why I've always been so against these conspiracy movies and people...NO SOURCES! Or someone's opinion or story...speculative bullshit....at best. :) And they mix truth with lies, just like any good propaganda film(and satan, coincidentally). This clip deals with the FED and some other important issues that do need to be closely looked at, but shows how Zeitgeist and other conspiracy films work . If they so easily lie and manipulate the truth to their own ends on these issues....what about everything else they are saying?
They preach about mainstream media being this evil, government controlled propaganda machine....well, I think that's f***in' hilarious :) They are now the mainstream....and their P.O.S. films(while brilliantly twisted and crafted) are almost dangerous or approaching incitement of hate. Something like 40-50% of Americans a few years ago believed their own government blew up the towers. That kind of thinking amongst our youth and population in general, may lead to more investigation and transparency....but left unchecked it could lead to massive problems and unrest. Especially if the economy continues to dangle on the edge of a cliff and citizens become increasingly angry and desperate...looking for someone to blame it all on. We don't need any more divisions in this country.
I think our society does need to make sure government does not abuse it's powers, but a certain degree of corruption is almost a certainty in any system of government/authority. We need to balance the need to continually challenge the government with a little acceptance (and less bitching...PLEASE!!!) of how things are. We have it so good and should constantly remind ourselves of that, despite the trials and tribulations we all experience in our lives...and government's role in it.
p.s. Alex Jones can suck my balls!! 8?P
While I agree that we've got it "good" in the grand scheme of world domination, I do tend to disagree with SEVERAL of your statements here. Call me the devil's advocate, but I think conspiracy theories have their place. I just finished reading "The Trillion Dollar Conspiracy" which shed some light on the current economical crises and big Pharm companies.
ReplyDeleteI think it is pure FOLLY to accept what mainstream media is pumping out. It certainly IS a government owned propoganda machine, a fact that I wish MORE citizens would realise. North American news media is controlled by only 5 companies. 5! In Canada? Less! For instance, global is owned by Canwest, and they are notoriously right wing conservatists. The reported news, then, is filtered through a conservative lens. You cannot trust what the big corps pump out, and you are a fool if you really believe their dollars aren't hooked to the governement. I assure you, they are.
THe media works in wonderful ways, to either purport slanted events, influence your spin on current issues, or to generate controlled panic when the govt wants you to respond. A small example: wikileaks. As soon as these docs were released, the States went on a massive smear campaign against the alleged "rapist" Julian Assange, as soon as wikileaks exploded in the U.S. Isn't it funny that mainstream media focused on making him "other" than regular people, some kind of monster whose truths could not be believed?
I think it is healthy to question your information sources. I also think it is possible that the governement has more to do with events from behind the yellow curtain than would make citizens comfortable.
The truth connot be contained in a book, or documentary by Michael Moore. But I do believe that these sources have their places, and do shine a light on the far left side of things. The truth lies somewhere in the middle.
Very true and I agree with ALL of what you say, despite some of my comments that seem to contradict that. Every side has two stories and the truth is somewhere in between. And not every conspiracy theory is just a theory. I just hear ppl only talking about the negative, so I defend the other side and try to point out things that maybe make ppl question their "total hatred" for government
ReplyDeleteWell, the government is a necessary evil due to our unprecedented love of capitalism. If we actually think about it, capitalism IS NOT the democratic way. Communisim has been bashed due to crazy dictators (Um, hi. Dictatorship, NOT communism), but in reality, communism is the only truly democratic way. Then we are truly voting as a public for what is RIGHT for US. Current democracy (in what is REALLY a plutocracy) is really just a bunch of suits, which no one REALLY elected as choices, to which we select the lesser of all evils. Is that really an informed choice? Questionable. I realize that greed will always win, and therefore communisim will always be flawed, however I truly think socialism has a place in today's political landscape, and that the people should really consider what choices they are currently recieving. Just a thought. That being said, total hatred is warranted.
ReplyDeletewell said :)

ReplyDeletemight I add, that although I stated I thought it was hilarious that they say the media is an evil, govt controlled propaganda machine.... it is true(although I don't think they exert as much influence on media coverage as ppl say). I was mainly laughing at the fact that they pretend to be unbiased and fair, when they themselves are spreading lies and propaganda for their own political and financial reasons. Also, a lot of what is in Zeitgeist it totally true, but it's the slant they put on some of it that bothers me, like 9/11 stuff. I want evidence, not someone's opinion or a "fact" that is so full of holes that any 6th grader should be able to question it and see other possibilities other than those presented. But 90% of the ppl I know buy ALL OF IT.... hook line and sinker. WHich is why I take a totally anti-conspiracy stance in these comments. It is not a total representation of my beliefs on the subject :) In my opinion, this fuels the anti/fuck authority views, that were so obviously present in the Vancouver riot.
ReplyDeleteAnd re: Assange, his actions will eventually force governments to be more transparent and I admire that aspect of it...but at the same time, I don't think they should've released information on troop strategies/placements etc. Regardless of your stance on the wars, those leaks jeopardize the lives of soldiers and civilians alike.
ReplyDeleteI understand what you're getting at with Assange, but I am critiquing less his "Actions" and more the political moves that "othered" him. When revealing sensitive material wasn't enough to scare the people, he was termed a rapist. Too much coincidence.
ReplyDeleteAs for the other stuff, its true that conspiracy theorists have their own agenda. The trick is to weigh the information against each other and form an opinion somewhere in the middle. The people that make you angry are the ignorant people, and might I add, no amount of logical reasoning will sway them anyhow.
I believe it was his native country that wanted him back to be questioned....it wasn't just the states smearing his name. But I also haven't read anything about it in a few weeks. I'm sure they did make every effort to do that though, but I'm just saying it isn't just made up, he was wanted there by the police. Was it Sweden...Denmark? I really can't remember....
ReplyDeletealso, very good points, as always....and I don;t think anyone is going to be swayed from reading classified documents, regardless of the crimes he did or didnt commit. Everybody loves a secret....regardless of the source.
ReplyDeleteVery true, secrets are currency. As for his native country, it was Sweden. I don't question the validity of the charge, I question the sudden televised coverage of his criminal actions. We heard nothing before the wikileaks controversy. It was interesting that the states decided to focus on that, instead of the real issue at hand. Instead of dealing with the leaks, they decided to slough it off and remind the public that they can't trust a rapist anyway.

ReplyDeleteYou are as close to genius as I've ever seen, Dr. Agent Girl :) thanks for the constructive and mind-opening "debate" take care :)
ReplyDeleteI'll check out some more of your entries later @ http://doubleagentgirl.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI still don't really watch t.v. - got satellite for 6 months but only watched CNN for Egypt/Libya/Japan etc.. now cancelled it, couldn't afford it in the first place and wasted $300+. so maybe that is why I am "ignorant" to some of the mainstream media coverage...I wasn't witness to a wholesale smearing of his name apart from the occasional story i heard on the radio or saw on the news. g'day 8?P and thx again
